Starfleet Lt. Hikaru Sulu, or simply Sulu, is a character in the Star Trek franchise. Sulu is a Human that represented all of Asia, which symbolized the peace of the Trek universe in spite of the numerous wars in the continent, which is an important element in many of his appearances. He serves aboard the USS Enterprise as the ship's navigator and tactical officer, holding the rank of lieutenant. He later became the captain of the USS Excelsior in the late 23rd century. He was portrayed by George Takei in the original series and is portrayed by John Cho in the rebooted film series.
