Information on the cameo

Jesus Christ, also known as Jesus of Nazareth (c. 4 BCE – 30-33 CE), was a Jewish preacher and religious leader. His life and teachings are the central focus of the religion that emerged after his death that became known as Christianity. Most Christians believe that he is the Messiah whose coming was predicted by the Old Testament prophets as well as the One and Only Son of God, seated at his right hand.

Jesus' historical existence is accepted by virtually all modern scholars. While the earliest historical records of his life are in the epistles of Paul the Apostle, he is mentioned in extra-biblical sources just a few decades after his death with the earliest extra-biblical sources mentioning Jesus being the writings of the Jewish historian Josephus. While the historicity of Jesus is virtually undisputed, the historical reliability of the accounts of his life and teachings in the New Testament are hotly debated with the only two events of Jesus' life whose historicity is beyond dispute being his baptism by John the Baptist and his Crucifixion.

According to the Gospels of Matthew and Luke, he was conceived when his mother Mary was 14 years old and unmarried and was born in Bethlehem in the Herodian Kingdom of Judea, then a client state of the Roman Empire, in a stable to Mary and her fiancée Joseph and. It was also said that his birth was prophesied by previous prophets and messengers God, including the itinerant prophet John the Baptist, and witnessed by those far removed from the Jewish fold. Jesus' story then pauses before it picks up again as he receives the Word of God at age 12 during temple worship. As a young adult, he fasted for 40 days and nights when he was tempted by Satan, but refused temptation. He was later approached by John the Baptist at the edge of the River Jordan, cleansed by immersion, and blessed by God who bestowed His Holy Spirit, anointing him as the Messiah in Hebrew, or in Greek Χριστός (pronounced Christos, which is where the English word Christ comes from).

Jesus preached for three years with a company of 12 apostles until he was sentenced to death by crucifixion by the Roman governor Pontius Pilate. While the Gospel accounts hold the Jewish religious leaders as more responsible for Jesus' death than the Roman authorities, it is more likely that Jesus was crucified due to his teachings and actions arousing the suspicion of the Roman authorities who feared that Jesus would attempt to lead a Jewish uprising against the Roman Empire. Despite this, the Jewish religious authorities at the time may have also had a hand in the crucifixion of Jesus because his popularity, criticism of the administration of the Second Temple, and interpretations of previous Jewish scripture and custom may have also made the Jewish religious leaders perceive him as a threat to their authority as the Jewish religious leaders also derived their authority from the Romans. After three days, Jesus was said to have been resurrected and ascended into heaven 40 days later. Christian tradition also holds that Jesus will come again at the end of time to judge the living and the dead.

Aside from Christianity, Jesus is also venerated in other religions as well. In Islam, Jesus is venerated as being the Messiah sent to guide the Children of Israel as well as the penultimate prophet who heralded the coming of Muhammad. Islam accepts that he was born of the Virgin Mary, performed miracles, accompanied by disciples, and rejected by the Jewish establishment, but rejects the idea that Jesus was divine, God, or the Son of God. Muslims also do not believe that Jesus was crucified but that he was raised into heaven alive. Just like in Christianity, Muslims believe that Jesus will return before Judgement Day but it will be to defeat the Antichrist and restore order and justice to the world. In contrast, modern Jews do not believe that Jesus was the Messiah as they do not believe that he fulfilled the messianic prophecies or was either divine or resurrected.
