Information on the cameo

John Sidney McCain III was born on August 29th, 1936, in Coco Solo, Panama. He was a prominent politician and statesman who served his entire political career representing the state of Arizona, first as a member of Congress and later as its senior U.S. Senator. He is best known for running as the 2008 Republican Party nominee for President of the United States against Barack Obama. McCain drew controversy his way when he selected Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate and potential vice president, which eventually contributed to his failure in the election.

Though he identified as a member of the Republican Party, McCain was also noted for breaking from the party's ideology when an issue was in direct conflict with his personal beliefs and experience. Having served in the Vietnam War and having been a prisoner of war therein, McCain demonstrated support for veterans and causes that support them. Because of his experience as a POW, he was staunchly anti-torture, which further caused friction between him and other Republicans with opposing views.

In mid-2017, McCain was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer. Less than a day after medical treatment was halted, McCain died on August 25, 2018 at his home in Cornville, Arizona.

Appearance in the rap battle

John McCain made a cameo appearance during Lady Gaga's second verse after she said the line, "History will regret you like J-J-J-John McCain!" McCain then raised his middle finger at the audience. He is shown using a mop with a mop bucket cart to contrast a monotonous labor with the high-profile job of United States President he had aimed for in 2008.
