John Flammang Schrank was born in Erding, Bavaria on March 5, 1876. He became famous for his attempted assassination of [[Theodore Roosevelt]] on October 14, 1912 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, while Roosevelt was campaigning for an unprecedented third term as president. Schrank shot Roosevelt, but the bullet failed to seriously injure Roosevelt, as it was slowed down by his steel eyeglass case and a 50 page speech. After being shot, Roosevelt famously said "It takes more than that to stop a Bull Moose."
