Information on the location
The Wild West, also known as the Old West, refers to the area of the United States west of the Mississippi River, specifically during the later part of the 19th century and early 20th century. It is typically set out in a desert or in a dried out field of land. It is usually known for being home to cowboys. One can visit the saloon (old western bar) for a drink, and to socialize with the locals. Due to the time setting, horses are the main transportation.
In the popular imagination, the Wild West is often conceived as a place that was rampant with crime, anarchy, and clashes between settlers and Native Americans. In reality, the American frontier during that time period was actually relatively peaceful. While the United States government and military itself is indeed responsible for the deaths for millions of Native Americans, clashes between Native Americans and settlers were actually rare in the American frontier during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Also, crime were rare due to the fact that settlements were smaller and more compact and it was relatively easy for criminals to be brought to justice. Furthermore, gun duels of the type seen in movies like The Good, The Bad and the Ugly were dying out by the late 19th century and were incredibly rare in the Old West.
